"Gertrude and Friends" depicts a farmyard scene, with four geese heading out for the day. I came across these four geese waddling out of their shed on a small farm in county Wicklow (Ireland). The farmer informed me that Gertrude, out in front, is a domesticated greylag goose, and her friends are Brecon buff geese. Greylag geese are the largest of the 'grey' geese. They have bulky bodies, long thick necks, large bills and a mainly uniform grey / brown plumage. Brecon buff geese are hardy, medium height geese originating from the Brecon beacons area of south Wales. The breed has become very popular and much sought after as a pet.
